Piping Lead – Site Execution (Green Hydrogen Projects)
(UG/AG Piping, Hydrogen, Utilities & Process Lines)
Job Level: Senior Manager
Location: Project Site – Assam (or relevant state)
Reporting To: Site Head – Green Hydrogen (with matrix coordination to HO Mechanical/Piping Design)
Travel: Field/site-based with occasional visits to contractor/OEM workshops if needed
Key Responsibilities
- Piping Package Supervision
- Own execution of:
- Raw Water Intake Pipeline (from source to plant)
- Hydrogen product pipeline (from electrolyzer to delivery point)
- UG/AG utility piping (CW, DM, firewater, ETP lines, etc.)
- Process interconnect piping (within electrolyzer, compressors, WTP, CT)
- Supervise routing, trenching, supports, fabrication, erection, welding, hydrotesting, flushing, etc.
- Drawings & Engineering Interface
- Review and implement:
- P&IDs, Isometrics, GA layouts, support drawings, sleeve plans
- Identify and resolve field-level deviations and site-fit adjustments in coordination with HO Engineering
- Interface Coordination
- Work closely with:
- Civil Lead – for pipe trenching, backfilling, and encasement
- Mechanical/Process Lead – for equipment nozzle connections and skids
- Instrumentation – for sleeves, sensor mountings
- Electrical – for routing clearances and earthing interfaces
- Contractor & Material Coordination
- Monitor contractor performance, ensure compliance with WPS/PQR (Welding Procedure), and progress vs plan
- Ensure correct use of pipe material (CS, SS, PE, FRP, HDPE, etc.) and prevent material mixing
- Track receipt, storage, and usage of pipes, fittings, valves, flanges, gaskets, etc.
- QA/QC & Safety Compliance
- Enforce:
- WPS compliance, NDT, RT, dye-penetrant testing, and weld joint traceability
- Pre-commissioning tests: flushing, hydrotesting, pneumatic testing (if applicable), air blowing
- Ensure safety for:
- Working in trenches, confined spaces, gas systems, welding and lifting operations
- Hydrogen-specific safety measures during installation
- Progress Monitoring & Reporting
- Maintain daily reports of erection, welding inches, hydrotesting progress, flushing, etc.
- Certify work for milestone payments in coordination with QA/QC and Cost Controller
- Documentation & Handover
- Ensure redlining of drawings, test reports, weld maps, and as-built documentation
- Finalize test packs and support commissioning team during system handover
Candidate Profile
- Education: B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (mandatory)
- Experience: 10–15 years in piping execution of industrial/process utility projects
- Must have executed UG/AG pipelines, plant process piping, utility integration, and ideally hydrogen/natural gas pipeline systems
Technical Skills
- Excellent knowledge of:
- P&IDs, isometrics, weld mapping, piping specs (ANSI, ASTM, API)
- Welding procedures, NDT protocols, hydro/pneumatic testing
- Familiarity with pipe supports, stress considerations, expansion loops, and buried pipe design
Soft Skills
- Strong coordination with site leads, engineering, OEMs, and QA/QC
- Clear reporting and documentation discipline
- Proactive resolution of field issues and drawing conflicts
Preferred (Not Mandatory)
- Experience in hydrogen or natural gas pipeline construction
- Familiarity with PE/HDPE pipelines, trenchless installation, cathodic protection
- Prior work in chemical/process industries, hydrogen or clean energy projects
