Job Description
The Carbon Credit Originator will be responsible for identifying, developing, and managing carbon offset/avoidance projects. This role will involve working closely with intern and external teams like project developers, verification bodies, project execution partners and regulatory agencies to ensure that projects meet compliance standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental science, project management, financial modelling and carbon markets, with a passion for sustainability and climate change mitigation.
- Project Identification and Development:
Identify potential carbon offset projects in various sectors such as clean cooking, forestry and agriculture.
Conduct feasibility studies, due diligence, prepare financial model on potential projects to assess their viability and compliance with carbon market standards.
- Project Management:
Work closely with internal & external stakeholders to ensure project milestones as per set timelines, and budgets.
- Compliance and Verification:
Ensure projects comply with relevant carbon standards (e.g., Verified Carbon Standard, Gold Standard, etc.).
Coordinate with carbon development team and third-party verification and validation of carbon offset projects.
- Market Analysis and Strategy:
Monitor and analyse carbon market trends and regulatory developments. Develop/design new projects to optimize the financial and environmental performance of carbon offset projects.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including project developers, investors, regulatory bodies, and community groups. Represent the company at industry conferences, workshops, and other events.
